Change is Good

screenshotWe are reaching end-of-life for the current BostonSOS website. While it worked well for a while, the software and server that runs this has simply been unable to handle the large number of subscribed members we've gained. Those of you with us from the beginning may recall we had to switch servers twice within 6 months because our memberbase swelled so quickly! That is a good problem to have. A bad problem to have is emails & invitations not reaching all the members, confusing social networking features, TMI cluttering the interface, and spambots posting bogus comments. That's the problem we have now. So though we've been running events all year, we haven't had time to create recaps as we've been trying to address these serious flaws. Thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through this "quiet" time!

During this transition period we've disabled the option to make new accounts here as well as the ability to log into your existing account.
We have ported nearly all the accounts over to the new site so that when it goes live you'll be able to login. You do not need to create a new account! You can login with your username or your email address; whichever is easier to remember.

Here are some of the ways we are going to address the issues
of the current site with the new iteration:

1. I can't RSVP to an event/I didn't get the invitation
Our new Event system is made for huge groups like our own, and invitations are sent using a more powerful server so we can make sure everyone who's invited can get them. In addition to BSOS events we will feature BSOS-approved events. You'll be able to choose to display just our events or get a calendar with all the events.

2. I never got the email!
Provided the email address you provided is valid and we aren't blocked by your spam filtering software you should receive all email blasts thanks to a more powerful server.

3. How do I connect with the people in the last event I participated in?
The social networking features are very similar to the Facebook interface. If you can use Facebook you'll have no problem with the new layout.

4. Egad! Someone spammed my profile page!
Sorry! The new site will use reCAPTCHA technology to prevent spambots from using the site. Unlike regular CAPTCHA preventions, reCAPTCHA is also accessible to our vision-impaired members who use screen-readers to navigate the site.

The site addresses a lot of other issues and includes a lot of other new features- some of which will be rolled out slowly over the next 6 months. Will everything work 100% from here on out. Well, probably not; that's Murphy's Law, but hopefully any new issues will pale in comparison to these critical ones. We're working really hard with our own pocket-money to bring you something great. I think you're going to like it a lot. There's a lot of cool stuff I can't talk about yet...

If you have ANY questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to send us an email.

Change is really good. Like in credit cards changing or shall I say switching to a payday loan is okay from my experience. It behooves a consumer to shop around for the best prices, and this applies to just about everything – what brand and where you buy your soda, or gas, or even financial services. For instance, if you don't habitually use credit cards, you could try using payday loans lenders instead for short term credit needs, and you can certainly shop around for the best rates. Payday loans in and of themselves aren't evil, as some would have you believe – and are perfectly safe if used with restraint and caution. There are even online loan lenders if you don't want to have to drive anywhere.
