No Pants 2K9 Boston

BostonSOS No Pants 2009

Saturday, January 10th at 3pm over 100 people showed up at Alewife to ride the T with their pants off. As in, no pants. As in sans-pants and pantless. Without pants you could say.

This was the 2nd year Boston participated in the No Pants festivities started by Improv Everywhere in NYC 8 years ago.

People of all ages participated.

Improv Everywhere will be putting together a video with footage from all the participating cities- we'll let you know when it is released! Here's a clip of a subway performer spontaneously making up lyrics about our pantlessness:

And yes- the man in the photo below is a REAL firefighter. The people in his subway car thought he was there to keep the peace in the event our crazy pantless shennanagins and goings on got out of hand. They were so very wrong...

He was nice enough to pose for a number of photos with participants after the ride- some who've come to know him as the "Hot Sauce Fireman" (check out the print on his boxers)

In addition to the Red Line we also took over JohnnyD's across from the Davis T stop...

Thank you to everyone who came out! You guys are awesome and courageous! We couldn't have done it without you or your lack of pants! I hope you all had a great time! Thanks to JohnnyD's for being so accommodating and giving us free appetizers while we drunk ourselves into a pantless stupor. Please share your comments of your experiences or what you heard below on this page! Remember if you have any photos you can add them to our Flikr pool and/or Facebook group! If you have photos of the JohnnyD's takeover feel free to add them to their Flikr pool as well at http://www.flickr.com/groups/johnnyds/. Thanks again, everyone! May next year's be bigger and more... pantless? CHEERS!

Girl on train asks:
Girl: "Is today something special?"
James: "What do you mean? Like a holiday? I don't know."
Girl: "No- there are hundreds of people with their pants off."
James: "Really? Where?"
Girl: "All over the place."
James: *looks around the car as the look of realization appears on his face* "Wow..."
Girl: "Yeah..."
James: "That's crazy! Do you think it's a protest or something?"
Girl: "I wanna know- what is it?"
James: "I have no idea- but that's messed up. It's winter! Don't they know it's cold outside? People are crazy..." *shakes head in disbelief*

Naturally I was sans pants for this conversation.

I'm so sorry I missed all this. I found out about the whole pantless subway rides tonight after it was all over. Too bad I would've done this in style because 1) It would've been my first ride on the T and 2) It would've been my first time pantless in public. SHOOT next year Boston I'm game!!!!

One guy was telling me about his conversation with one of the journalists. She was asking something about the event and he played dumb and she asked if this was the second time this has happened and he was like "oh you mean the inauguration?" and she said "yeah, sure, the inauguration, is this the 2nd inauguration?" and he replied "No of course not this is the 44th inauguration it's just the first time a black man has been elected president!"

great job everyone. So sad I missed it. I had been thinking about it all last week and completely spaced on it that morning.

Yet again, I had an amazing time with Boston SOS. I just wanted to tell you about my trough dropping experience. I was standing next to a guy who had no idea what was going on. But a couple of girls took there pants off across from us, and he just gave me this weird look, and said, "What's going on?" I proceeded to say," I don't know this is weird." Then as soon as they got off of the car and the train started moving again, I asked the man to please hold my bag, which he did, and I took of my pants too. He just laughed and didn't say anything else to me! HA.

I had a fantastic time. I met some amazing new people, and we even proceeded to have an impromptu pants off party at my house after Johnny Ds.

Boston was well organized and the T staff were supportive. I was impressed by the number of guys wearing suit and ties. One even had pinstripe underpants to boot. My personal favorite were some paisley boxers.

The children’s market, where resistance to advertising is weakest, is the “pioneer for ad creep”.[71] “Kids are among the most sophisticated observers of ads. They can sing the jingles and identify the logos, and they often have strong feelings about products. What they generally don't understand, however, are the issues that underlie how advertising works. Mass media are used not only to sell goods but also ideas: how we should behave, what rules are important, who we should respect and what we should value.”[72] Youth is increasingly reduced to the role of a consumer. Not only the makers of toys, sweets, ice cream, breakfast food and sport adult web hosting articles prefer to aim their promotion at children and adolescents. For example, an ad for a breakfast cereal on a channel aimed at adults will have music that is a soft ballad, whereas on a channel aimed at children, the same ad will use a catchy rock jingle of the same song web templates to aim at kids. Advertising for other products preferably uses media with which they can also reach the next generation of consumers.[73] “Key advertising voip messages exploit the emerging independence of young people”. Cigarettes, for example, “are used as a fashion accessory and appeal to young women. Other influences high speed internet service on young people include the linking of sporting heroes and smoking through sports sponsorship, the use of cigarettes by popular characters in television programmes and cigarette promotions. Research suggests that young people are aware of the most heavily advertised cigarette brands.”[63]

Cool!!!!! That was really cool guys!!! This is only my first time to see almost all people are not wearing pants during this season. I can't imagine myself wearing a thin shorts ina a super cold place.. rrrrrrr.... It makes me remember this when I got a news that Dockers has, in their wisdom, begun a promotion whereby people can sign up to win one of 2010 pairs of free Dockers. Free pants are nice, good free pants are better – people can sign up until February 2010, when the winners are allotted their free clothing. The rest of us will have to still get payday loans or save up for good slacks – Dockers will also send a coupon to anyone who signs up by e-mail.

I hate that my job doesn't cover the cost of coal scuttle; especially now, seeing that I may need to purchase a weight loss body wrap and read up some more weight loss info
